Coach: Gordon Duff (third year).
1994: Third in the Sunset League, fifth at the Southern Section Division I-A finals.
Key returners: Kimberly Bates, So; Krista Dixon, Sr; Monica MacManus, Sr; Summer Mitamurs, Sr; Amber Pierce, Sr; Liz Sisk, Sr; Lezlee Tamo, Sr.
Key newcomers: Wendy Bowen, So; Megan Goldman, So; Maleia Lines, Sr; Kori Padilla, Sr; Katie Williamson, Jr.
Outlook: This is the year Los Alamitos has been waiting for. It has six seniors among its top 10 runners. Combine that with Edison and Esperanza expecting to suffer through rebuilding years, and it makes the Griffins the favorites in the Sunset League. Bates was a Times Orange County second-team selection as a freshman and has recovered from her injury-marred track season. As a freshman, she finished runner-up in the Sunset League to Esperanza’s Courtney Pugmire, The Times runner of the year. Pierce and Tamo finished 10th and 12th at league finals last season. Lines is a transfer from Yucca Valley and is expected to provide considerable help.
