Southeast : A HOEDOWN THAT WENT DOWN

Country music fans were in for a big disappointment Monday when they arrived at Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach, the planned site of a weekend-long country music festival, and found that it had been canceled in mid-event Sunday.
California Country Jam ’95 had been planned for as many as 40,000 people, with several bands, a food court, country merchandise, children’s entertainment and a 14,000-square-foot dance floor, all for $18 a day or $45 for the three-day extravaganza.
But after only a few hundred paying customers trickled in, the festival was shut down. Organizers were unavailable for comment, but Tuesday an apologetic tape-recorded message greeted callers to the offices of Jody Robbins Productions, the festival’s Long Beach-based promoter.
Robbins asks all those seeking refunds to write to Jody Robbins Productions, California Country Jam ‘95, 555 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, Calif. 90802.
