Four Teens Held in ‘Thrill Shooting’
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Four teen-agers have been arrested in what police are calling the “thrill shooting” of a Santa Clara man here.
Police said the four, whose names were withheld, were booked Sunday into a Placerville juvenile hall for investigation of attempted murder. Three are 16 and the other is 15.
Police said Robert Buchser, 59, was walking early Saturday when the four approached him and fired three shots for no apparent reason.
The shots struck Buchser below an eye as well as in the neck and back. Buchser, a Santa Clara County School District employee, was listed in satisfactory condition Monday at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.
The juveniles said they were “looking for someone to scare” and picked Buchser at random, according to police. One of the boys claimed the handgun accidentally discharged three times while they were trying to scare him, officers added.
Buchser had arrived at South Lake Tahoe with friends early Saturday and was walking to an adjacent home to see his 94-year-old mother when he was shot.
