Low-income seniors and disabled persons are being invited to apply for free home improvements through Paint Your Heart Out Anaheim, a volunteer program beginning its sixth year.

Program coordinator Carolyn Griebe said that applications will be accepted through December and that 40 to 45 homes will be selected by March 1. The work will be performed in April and May.

A “Celebrity Waiter Gala” fund-raising dinner for the program will be Sept. 15 at an Anaheim restaurant.

Griebe said that receiving the improvements makes many of the residents “feel for the first time in a long time that someone is caring for them.”

“I think some of the seniors enjoy the time that is spent with them as much as the painting,” she said.

Griebe pointed out that teams of 15 to 20 volunteers will spend two days making minor home repairs, doing landscape work and painting a house’s exterior. After the work is completed, a party will be held for the volunteers at Anaheim Stadium.
