Police Commission to Hold Neighborhood Meeting Tonight
Launching another part of a voter-approved Los Angeles Police Department reform program, the Police Commission will meet tonight in a Southwest Los Angeles school auditorium.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, 3989 S. Hobart Blvd. The session is the first of a series of neighborhood meetings planned by the commission as it implements a program called community-based policing.
“As we progress into the new era of community-based policing, it is crucial that we provide the public with opportunities to better understand, observe and participate in police business,” Commission President Deirdre Hill said.
“My fellow commissioners and I look forward to meeting with and listening to the concerns of residents throughout the city of Los Angeles.”
Tonight’s meeting also will be the first for the commission’s two new members, Raymond Fisher of Sherman Oaks and Edith Perez of Los Feliz. Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas and LAPD Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker also are scheduled to participate.
Community members will have an opportunity to address the commission on public safety issues in their area. Additional information is available through the commission office at (213) 485-3531.
