CAMARILLO : Comments Sought on Reservoir Plan

A proposal for a 4-million-gallon reservoir in Camarillo will be reviewed at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a public meeting at Camarillo Heights Elementary School.

Two potential sites, about a half-mile apart on Mesa Road in the unincorporated Camarillo Heights area, are being proposed for the underground water storage reservoir.

The city’s Department of Engineering Services is seeking public comment on the proposed sites to help prepare an environmental impact report.

Engineering Services Director Dan Greeley said the underground reservoir will be constructed of reinforced concrete and covered by landscaping.

When completed, the facility will be considered a “silent neighbor with no pump” or other noticeable impact, he said.

A group of neighbors who call themselves Homeowners for Safety are expected to attend the meeting, opposing the Mesa Road sites that are uphill from their homes. They are concerned about earthquake safety, underground flooding and aesthetics, members said.

Written comments must be received by the Department of Engineering Services by 5 p.m. Sept. 11.

Comments may be sent to the City of Camarillo, Department of Engineering Services, 601 Carmen Drive, Camarillo, 93010.

After the environmental impact report is completed, the City Council will hold a public hearing.
