Northwest, Continental Announce Fare Sales: The carriers are offering the lower prices through mid-December for tickets purchased this week. St. Paul, Minn.-based Northwest Airlines Inc. said its prices would be cut 50% off regular fares for most major cities. Houston-based Continental Airlines Inc. cut fares an average of 40% but said it will meet Northwest prices in cities where they compete.
