Triple Threat: The three tenors have finally harmonized their busy schedules and will launch their first world tour next year, London’s Sunday Times reported. Luciano Pavarotti told the newspaper that he, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras will announce the tour dates at a London press conference on Oct. 11. The three first performed together at the closing of the 1990 World Cup soccer championship in Rome. The recording of that performance sold 10 million copies, becoming the best-selling classical recording of all time. The tenors reunited for the closing of the 1994 World Cup at Dodger Stadium.

Box Office Kombat: “Mortal Kombat,” the movie based on the martial arts video game, kicked the competition at the box office for the second weekend in a row. The New Line release took in $10.3 million for the No. 1 spot during the sluggish box-office weekend, according to early industry estimates. Columbia’s “Desperado,” the new release starring Antonio Banderas, tied for second with Hollywood Pictures’ “Dangerous Minds” with $8 million apiece. 20th Century Fox’s “A Walk in the Clouds” came in fourth with $5.4 million. MGM’s “Lord of Illusions” took fifth its first week in release with $4.9 million. Universal’s “Waterworld” dropped out of the top five with $3.6 million for seventh place. The movie has taken in $76.3 million to date.

TELEVISION

Program Notes: Talk-show host David Letterman will mark his second anniversary on CBS this week, beginning tonight, by re-airing his very first week of “Late Show” broadcasts, with guests including Bill Murray, Robin Williams, Demi Moore and Martin Short, plus musical guests John Mellencamp, the Spin Doctors, Soul Asylum and others. . . . ABC will bring back the classic animated program “George of the Jungle” for a seven-week Saturday morning run, starting Sept. 9. . . . The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences estimates that its Sept. 10 Emmy Awards will be seen by a foreign audience of more than 575 million people in 85 countries, which would set a new viewing record for the program. Countries set to receive the program for the first time are Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia and Slovakia.

Cyberconcert: A House of Blues concert benefiting the AIDS battle will be available on the World Wide Web on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The band Spearhead will spearhead the event, playing selections from its album, “Home.” The concert will be simulcast internationally on the web in three places: at Spearhead’s website ( https://www.crashsite.com/Crash/Music/Spearhead ), Capitol Records’ site ( https://www.hollywoodandvine.com ) and the House of Blues’ website ( https://underground.net/HOB ). Pledges will be accepted over the World Wide Web to raise money for LIFEbeat, the group that helps musicians fight against AIDS.

Coming to a Newsstand Near You: Another Jerry Garcia memorial magazine is on the way. Larry Flynt Productions Inc. will release “Jerry Garcia: What a Long Strange Trip It Was,” an 80-page collector’s edition that will include photographs, articles on the late Grateful Dead leader’s life and career and a pull-out “skull and roses” poster. Only 200,000 copies of the magazine, which goes on sale Sept. 19, will be printed.

Real-life Rescue: After six years as a lifeguard on TV’s “Baywatch,” David Hasselhoff was ready for the real thing when he spotted a toddler dragged into rough surf by a dog last week. Hasselhoff, who was preparing for a People magazine photo shoot, charged into the water near Malibu and pulled the girl out. The girl was walking the dog at the beach when someone threw a ball into the water and the dog chased it, pulling her 25 feet into rough surf. The girl’s leg was slightly injured, but she was otherwise fine.

Larry Hagman’s condition continued to improve Sunday. A spokesman at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said the actor, who underwent a liver transplant last week, may soon be moved out of intensive care to a private room. The spokesman said that Hagman will remain hospitalized for at least another week. . . . Hagman’s “I Dream of Jeannie” co-star, Barbara Eden, will star with Gary Sandy in the Long Beach Civic Light Opera production of “Nite Club Confidential,” opening Sept. 28.
