GARCIA LIVES: Two projects involving the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia were completed shortly before his death Aug. 9. One is an album by the band Second Sights, fronted by longtime Dead associate Bob Bralove and featuring Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick, with Garcia guesting on guitar. Release arrangements are being made.
Meanwhile, Garcia helped Bay Area musician Henry Kaiser on the first of a planned series of CDs compiling original versions of the many blues, country, folk and pop songs the Dead covered in concert and on record over its 30 years. Titled after a ‘70s Dead song, “The Music Never Stopped,” the CD features cover art by cartoonist R. Crumb. It’s coming out soon in a joint release by Shanachie Records and the band’s Grateful Dead Marketing.
