Sadness, Then Anger, at Death of a Hero
When Mickey Mantle’s death was announced, I dashed to the bedroom and woke my husband. Tears were streaming down my face. Growing up, my heroes were Mantle, Maris, Drysdale and Koufax. Now, three are gone.
I also feel angry at those who wrote complaining about Mantle’s supposed preferential treatment in obtaining a liver transplant. So, you creeps, are you happy now? Did you accomplish anything more than adding to Mantle’s already agonizing death? At least I know the Mick has sprouted wings.
