San Gabriel Valley : Lack of Competition Eliminates Elections
School board elections slated for Nov. 7 in Azusa, El Monte Union, La Canada and Monrovia have been canceled because no one challenged the incumbents. The same goes for the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees.
And in Temple City, political novice Paul Speirs--the only outside challenger to step up to the plate--will assume a board seat vacated by Charlotte Bria, who is stepping down after eight years.
In South Pasadena, meanwhile, incumbents automatically have won their seats unopposed, but an election still must be held because Measure L, a $28.7-million schools renovation bond, is on the ballot.
