Lee Finishes in Sixth Place in Junior Golf Tournament
Anne Lee of Northridge shot a three-day 236 to finish sixth Thursday in the Ashworth/Golfweek Junior golf championship at Aviara Golf Club at Carlsbad, Calif.
Linda Ishii of Westlake Village (246) finished 13th and Cheryl Musser of West Hills (266) placed 19th.
In boys’ competition, Chuck Ruiz of Sylmar and Ross Fulgentis of Westlake Village (225) tied for ninth and Jason Semelsberger of Newhall (230) tied for 21st.

The fourth annual Wellness Community golf tournament will take place Sept. 18 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
Proceeds will benefit cancer patients and their families. The tournament will include tee packages and an awards reception. Entry fee is $250 per person, $900 per foursome.

Basketball
Jon Wheeler, an assistant basketball coach at UC Davis the past three seasons, has been hired as an assistant at Pepperdine.
Prior to joining Davis, Wheeler was an assistant at California.
Boxing
Darryl Miller of Cincinnati defeated Jose Salas of Oxnard by a 3-0 decision in the opening round of the 132-pound division of the Junior Golden Gloves competition at Cincinnati on Thursday.
“It was a tough fight, but the other guy was just more experienced than Jose,” said Ben Lira, coach of the Southern California team. “Jose fought real good. He was very determined and he never gave up, but the other kid was just more experienced.”
