On the Waterfront

(NR) Marlon Brando in one of his most memorable roles, as a barely verbal pug with a good heart and more morals than just about anybody else on the waterfront. Well, his girlfriend (Eva Marie Saint) is also pretty nice, but his mob-tied brother (Rod Steiger) isn’t. The 1954 movie was directed by Elia Kazan. (NR) Big-time melodrama starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne as a couple that adopts a baby after their own dies. This 1941 film, directed by George Stevens, is awash in tears, but Grant and Dunne are as effective as usual.
