California Thunder Wins AAU Baseball Title
The California Thunder 14-and-under baseball team won the Amateur Athletic Union national championship in the National Space Coast Classic at Cocoa Beach, Fla.
The Thunder, which draws players from throughout Orange County and practices at Marina High, won eight of nine games, including an 11-0 victory over the Iowa Hurricanes Tuesday, to take the title.
Leading the way for the Thunder were Joey Hamer (.584, 13 runs batted in) and Derek Amundson (.500, nine RBIs).
Other players were Joey Ammirato, Robbie Crosta, Andy Garcia, Nick Lovato, Brian Lockwood, Mike Martinez, John Puccinelli, Jason Ryerson, Tony Schuler, Gabe Beloz, Scott Westrick, Don Wood and Dominic Magnotti.
