13 Soccer Players Sign With Irvine
The UC Irvine men’s soccer team has signed 13 players, first-year Coach George Kuntz announced Monday.
Among those signed were Southern Section Division III player of the year Mike Jacobs and teammate Gustav Gratzer of Woodbridge High, South Coast League most valuable player Ryan Hawkins of Capistrano Valley High, all-Sea View League defender Brian Teter of Irvine High and all-Mission Conference goalkeeper Scott Zinser of Rancho Santiago College.

Dale Ervine of the Splash has not played since July 22, but that won’t stop the Continental Indoor Soccer League’s leading vote-getter from starting tonight’s all-star game in Portland, CISL media relations director Dan Courtemanche said.
Ervine, a 10-year indoor soccer veteran, was the league’s fifth-leading scorer when he was benched July 27 by Coach George Fernandez. Fernandez called the move a “coach’s decision.”
Fernandez has said Ervine will not play for the Splash again. The Arizona Sandsharks have shown the most interest in trading for Ervine, Courtemanche said.
