Using the Canadian Open as a jumping-off point back into tennis, Monica Seles spent Monday renewing acquaintances and learning who her first opponent will be.

Kimberly Po beat Australia’s Rennae Stubbs, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to a second-round match tonight against Seles, who is making her first tournament appearance since she was stabbed in Germany in 1993.

“That’s why you guys are all here,” Po said to reporters. “I knew there had to be something. I had no idea.”
