VALLEY FOCUS : Sylmar : Medical Center Group Honors LAPD Officer
Los Angeles Police Cmdr. James T. (Tim) McBride will receive an annual community service award given by a nonprofit, Sylmar-based health education foundation. McBride was awarded the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center Foundation’s Nelle Reagan Award for Distinguished Community Service.
McBride is a member of the foundation’s board of directors and lives in the Valley.
Foundation members cited McBride’s accessibility as a police officer and noted his involvement on the boards of the Mission Hills Chamber of Commerce, Northridge Little League, LAPD’s Jeopardy Foundation, Verdugo Hills Television and the YMCA. McBride is also a member of the Pacoima Coordinating Council and the chambers of commerce in Pacoima, Sun Valley Sunland/Tujunga and Sylmar.
The service award recognizes volunteerism and community commitment. It is named for Nelle Reagan, a volunteer at Olive View for more than 15 years.
A recipient “has to be someone who has really done a lot for the community,” said Beverly Froelich, spokeswoman for the medical center foundation. The award is scheduled to be presented to McBride during an award ceremony Oct. 27 in Granada Hills.
“Tim personifies the motto ‘to protect and serve,’ ” said Dr. Irwin Ziment, acting medical director of Olive View and a past recipient of the service award. “He is greatly admired and respected by everyone who knows him.”
Olive View-UCLA Medical Center is operated by Los Angeles County and serves the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.
