Anderson Launches Bid for Home Oil: Anderson Exploration Ltd. launched a takeover bid for Canada’s Home Oil Co. Ltd., which is the target of a rival $840-million bid from Amoco Canada Petroleum Ltd. Calgary-based Anderson said it is offering 1.38 of its shares for each Home share. Based on Anderson’s stock price Friday of $9.71, the deal is valued at about $890 million with the assumption of Home’s debt. Amoco Canada, a unit of Chicago-based Amoco Corp., made its bid June 26. Anderson said the assets of Home, which has struggled financially for several years, would provide Anderson with “trophy” exploration and development opportunities. It would also make Anderson Canada’s eighth-largest natural gas producer and 16th-largest oil producer.
