Halliburton Taps Cheney as CEO: Dallas-based Halliburton Co. named former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney as president and chief executive, effective Oct. 1. Cheney also joins the Halliburton board immediately. Cheney, 54, will succeed Thomas Cruikshank as chief executive. Cruikshank, 63, will retire as chairman at the end of this year. Cheney said it is time to turn from politics to private life. He served as defense secretary from March, 1989, to January, 1993. Halliburton is a diversified energy services, maintenance, construction and engineering company. Cheney’s salary was not disclosed.
