Toddler Drowns in Spa in Arleta
ARLETA — An 18-month-old girl drowned Wednesday after being left in a spa for at least five minutes, officials said.
The girl, whose name was not released, was found by her mother floating in a spa in the 8500 block of Matilija Avenue about 4:15 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said. Collis said the girl was underwater for between five and 15 minutes.
She was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m. at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley, nursing supervisor Heidi Ansell said. Police were investigating the incident Wednesday night.
“It just goes to show,” Ansell said, “it doesn’t take but a second for the environment not to be safe anymore.”
