‘ER’ Gets 3 More Emmy Bids; NBC Now Has the Most Nods : Television: Academy announces finalists in six more categories as ties are resolved through runoff balloting.

The medical drama “ER,†already leading in the nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards, picked up three more Monday when the finalists in six additional categories were unveiled by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Nominations in these categories had been withheld when the rest of the 47th annual nighttime Emmy nominees were announced July 20 because each had multiple ties that had to be resolved through runoff balloting.

NBC’s “ER†garnered two nominations for directing and one for sound editing to bring its total to 23.

ABC’s police drama “NYPD Blue†held onto its spot as the second-most nominated program with 13, collecting one additional nomination for directing. NBC’s “Frasier,†with two new nominations for comedy writing, moved into third with 12.

“The Larry Sanders Show†also picked up two nominations for comedy writing, including one for a script co-written by the series’ star, Garry Shandling. Shandling earlier had been nominated as both an actor and a producer on the HBO show.

NBC, meanwhile, jumped into the lead among the networks. Earlier it had been tied with CBS, but the new nominations brought its total to 96, five more than CBS. HBO was third with 50, followed by ABC with 42, Fox with 19 and PBS and TNT with 18 each.

Winners will be announced Sept. 10 in ceremonies at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, which Fox will televise. The telecast will be hosted by Cybill Shepherd and Jason Alexander.
