AmeriCorps Story Ignores Positive
* It was disappointing to read Jeff Kass’ article about AmeriCorps (“AmeriCorps Off to a Slow Start,” July 17).
Is AmeriCorps the intended target of this negative reporting or [is this] just another tired attempt at blaming the current Administration for yet another failure? Whatever the reason, many hard-working members of AmeriCorps felt the bite of Kass’ biased reporting.
AmeriCorps is in its first year of implementation, where slow starts are common and sometimes unfortunate. However, all good things are worth waiting for, and Kass’ article overshadows the successful services AmeriCorps has provided in one short year.
Please let the people know all the facts. AmeriCorps has only one agenda: to serve the country. AmeriCorps programs are designed to provide for everyone, regardless of race, economic status, age, gender and even political affiliation.
AmeriCorps, of which I am a member, is a young program full of potential, and it needs to be given the time to reach that potential. Why not try the refreshing concept of support, or at least fair consideration of AmeriCorps before placing blame?
