Gurney Rolls Into PBA Lead With a 277 in Fourth Round
Barry Gurney of West Hills closed with a 277 game Wednesday night to take over first place in the $75,000 Rocky Mountain PBA Senior Classic in Littleton, Colo.
Gurney, a two-time champion, was third going into the fourth round. But he took over first by beating Denny Torgerson, who was leading going into the final game, 277-182.
Golf
Darren Angel of Northridge slipped to eighth place by shooting a four-over-par 74 for a two-day total of 143 in the American Junior Golf Assn. boys championship at Four Season Resort and Club Tournament Players course in Irving, Tex.
Todd Golditch of Northridge struggled to an eight-over-par 80 and was tied for 36th at 157 after the second round of the ClubCorp Junior Players Championship (15-16 division) in Hot Springs, Va.
Baseball
Left-hander Dave Perry allowed three hits and struck out five to lead Conejo Valley (13-1) to a 6-1 Senior Little League victory over San Bernardino Newmark.
Conejo Valley is one victory away from winning the state divisional championship for 15-year-olds.
Tennis
Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo recorded singles victories as Southern California defeated the South, 4-2, in the U.S. boys’ 18-and-under intersectional team tennis championships at the University of South Carolina.
Jason Cook of Woodland Hills defeated Eddie Coates of Cleveland, Tenn., 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.
