Southeast : FORCED RESIGNATION?

Former Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Joel B. Friedland, charging that officials conspired to force him from his position last year, is suing the city for $10,800 in damages and reinstatement.
Friedland filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court last week saying he was coerced into resigning because he wanted to sell two pieces of land to the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency.
Shortly before Friedland’s resignation, members of the redevelopment board complained that buying the land from Friedland would create a conflict of interest.
The sale of Friedland’s land, for $800,000, was completed shortly after the resignation, said Assistant City Atty. Robert E. Shannon.
