About 3,000 athletes are expected to participate in the second South Coast Invitational soccer tournament this weekend at Huntington Beach area schools.

Sponsored by the South Coast Soccer Club, the tournament, for boys and girls ages 10-19, begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Edison, Ocean View, Marina and Fountain Valley high schools, as well as Sun View and Gisler middle schools.

Championship games will be played Sunday afternoon, but some of the premier games will take place at Edison, where the boys under 15 play at 1:30 p.m., boys under 19 at 3:30 p.m., girls under 15 at 1:30 p.m., and girls under 18 at 1:30 p.m.

More than 160 soccer teams from Northern California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and the Southland are competing.

Kyle Baumgarner of Villa Park High and Todd Valentine of Trabuco Hills each scored four goals to lead the Orange Regional Competitive Aquatics 15-and-under team to a 9-4 victory over Adam of Puerto Rico at the Junior Olympic Water Polo Championships Tuesday in Orlando, Fla.

In its other second-round game, Sean Souza of El Toro High scored five goals and Matt Sakatani, also from El Toro, scored four as ORCA defeated Commerce, Calif., 15-9. Goalkeeper Jon Pharris of Villa Park High had 13 saves.

ORCA’s 17-and-under team was defeated by Southern California’s top-seeded A team, 6-4, in its first game and the second game was canceled because of inclement weather. Brian Brown and Scott Hay of Foothill had goals for Southern California.

Southern California’s 15-and-under B team upset third-seeded Stanford, 8-5, as Matt Macpherson of Foothill scored the go-ahead goal in the third quarter.

Top-seeded Jonny Biorkman of Woodbridge High lost to James Smith of Villa Park, 1-6, 7-6, 3-6, in the boys’ 18s division and was eliminated from the Junior Tennis Classic Tuesday at the Balboa Bay Racquet Club.

In the boys’ 16s, top-seeded Adam Artunian of Woodbridge defeated Tyler Stratman of Laguna Beach, 7-6, 6-2.

Dale Ervine, the Splash’s leading scorer, did not attend the team’s Tuesday practice at The Pond. It was Splash’s first practice since Sunday, when Ervine elected to skip a trip to Portland to evaluate his status after being benched the previous two games. The Splash plays host to Mexico tonight, 7:35 p.m., at The Pond before embarking on a four-game trip.
