San Fernando Valley : Northridge Fashion Center Officially Reopens With Show Tonight
The Northridge Fashion Center officially opens tonight after 18 months of earthquake repairs, becoming the latest San Fernando Valley landmark to return to normal operations since the Jan. 17, 1994, quake rocked the region.
The mall’s buckled parking levels, shattered store windows and fractured facades became one of the symbols of the quake’s destruction.
Organizers hope to replace that image with ones of celebrities, musical performances and fireworks that will appear at the grand opening ceremony tonight.
The event is to begin at 7:30 p.m. atop the Tampa Avenue Parking Terrace. Activities are to include a fireworks display, a laser show and live musical performances by the 5th Dimension’s Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.
