Obituaries : * Opal Spellins; Seamstress, Ventura Resident
Opal Spellins, a longtime Ventura resident, died Monday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura after a brief illness. She was 69.
Spellins, who was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Hartman, Ark., moved to Ventura from Oklahoma City in 1955.
She was a seamstress and enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling, her daughter said.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Spellins; her eldest son, Gary Wayne Spellins; and a granddaughter, Leslie Ann Spellins.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Leiser of Ventura; two sons, Larry Spellins of Ventura and Allen Spellins of Camarillo; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, with Msgr. Patrick J. O’Brien officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are being handled by Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
