Delta, Continental Cut Fares: Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines slashed its ticket prices by up to 40% for travel through late fall, prompting Continental Airlines to match the offer on competing routes. Delta’s discounted round-trip fares apply from Aug. 13 to Dec. 15, except around Thanksgiving, between most cities in the United States and Canada. Both carriers require sale tickets to be purchased by Aug. 9. On Houston-based Continental, travel must be completed by Dec. 15.
