SIMI VALLEY : City to Give Ragtime the Horse Its Due
Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton will honor Ragtime, the miniature horse, with a commendation Thursday for its public service and help with fund-raising.
Ragtime garnered worldwide attention several years ago when the city of Thousand Oaks and a homeowners association sued the horse’s owners, alleging that the equine could not be kept as a house pet.
Two court rulings disagreed, and the 177-pound horse was allowed to remain in the home of Patti Fairchild, who later moved to Simi Valley.
The 9-year-old gray-and-white horse frequently visits hospitals and convalescent homes and has been used in a host of fund-raisers.
The award ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the Simi Valley City Hall courtyard, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
