Same-Sex Marriage Trial Postponed Until 1996

HONOLULU — A judge postponed a trial in which the state must prove it has a compelling interest in keeping same-sex couples from marrying.
Circuit Judge Kevin Chang on Thursday postponed the September trial until after the 1996 legislative session to give lawmakers time to consider recommendations from a commission that will study the issue.
