LAGUNA BEACH : Volunteers Sought to Clean Up Aliso Beach
The Surfrider Foundation’s local chapter is organizing a beach cleanup at Aliso Beach early Sunday .
During a sweep of the same beach last month, volunteers collected 23 bags of trash, said Tex Haines, a Surfrider leader. “And it had been cleaned up by the county the day before,” he said.
Summer is a busy season for Surfrider Foundation members, who have recently intensified their efforts to call awareness to dirty beaches and water. Haines said the group organizes the cleanups because residents seem eager to help.
Volunteers should gather at Aliso Beach at the south end of town at 8 a.m. The work will continue until 10 a.m. and will be followed by a skim board competition that begins today.
“It doesn’t hurt to bring gloves if you’re squeamish about trash,” Haines said, “and trash bags are always appreciated.”
