Trucker Accused of Driving While on Illegal Drug
VAN NUYS — A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, trucker has been accused of driving a fully-loaded 16-wheel tractor-trailer along the Foothill Freeway while under the influence of methamphetamine, authorities said Wednesday.
Nevin G. Stoner was arrested about 1:45 a.m. Friday by a CHP officer who spotted his 16-wheeler weaving between lanes of the freeway near Roxford Street in Sylmar at 65 m.p.h., Deputy City Atty. Nicholas Fratianne said.
The officer said that Stoner was acting as if he were intoxicated, and that he failed a sobriety test, Fratianne said. The officer later found 1.2 grams of methamphetamine in a Tylenol bottle inside the truck, Fratianne said.
Stoner was released on his own recognizance by the Sheriff’s Department and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 2.
