‘F’ IS FOR FIRST-RATE

Thanks to Sean Mitchell for his fine article on my favorite girl singer (“Nancy Griffith and the Great American Music Show,” May 7.” I frankly don’t care to categorize her music, but if the F-word (folk) makes it more convenient for radio, publications, record companies and record stores, so be it.
Griffith’s music, whether her own songs or covers of others, can bring you to the dance floor (“This Heart”) or to tears (“Southbound Train”) in a Texas heartbeat. Start with “Flyer” and “Other Voices, Other Rooms” and work your way back through her other albums. She’s a brilliant artist, a gem. Sandy Shaffer Redondo Beach
