PACOIMA : 2 Arrested After Drive-By Shooting

Two alleged gang members were in custody Friday after one was caught running from the scene of a drive-by shooting, police said.

Police say they do not know why Abelardo Lopez, 20, of Pacoima, walked away from the scene rather than ride off with his alleged accomplice, Oscar Luna, 21, of Pacoima.

Los Angeles Police Detective Frank Bishop said Luna shot Jorge Romero, 22, of Pacoima, in the 10500 block of Cayuga Avenue about 6:15 p.m. Thursday before handing his .38 revolver to Lopez and driving off.

Romero was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition on Friday, according to Bishop.

Detectives Erwing Velasco and Lillian Johnson spotted Lopez running away from the scene, Bishop said. They chased him and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder, Bishop said.

A few minutes later, they arrested Luna at his nearby home, Bishop said.

Bishop said the shooting was due to a gang dispute.
