POSTGRADUATE WORK: La Habra High and nearby Sonora High seniors will receive something besides their diplomas at graduation ceremonies tonight. La Habra activist Rose Espinoza has persuaded officials to let her hand each graduate a congratulatory letter--and a voter registration form. . . . Says Espinoza, who runs her own tutoring program: “We want the graduates to know they have choices and they can make a difference by voting.†. . . . She hopes to expand her idea to other schools next year.

HOW TAME THIS CAT? There is at least one advantage to being a member of the West Anaheim girls Little League Jaguars: They all got invitations to join the media preview today of the long-anticipated new Jaguar! roller coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park (OC Live!). . . . Another special invitee today is Buena Park Mayor Don R. Griffin, 64. Griffin says he’s excited about the event, but might stay on the ground: “At my age, I don’t need those big exciting things.â€

BAT RECORD: New York composer Elliot B. Goldenthal worked closely with local artists in preparing his specially commissioned Vietnam oratorio, which premiered in April at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. But he also spent much of the past year working on something a little less serious: composing the music for the new movie “Batman Forever.†. . . It opens Friday at 63 movie screens in Orange County--a record. Previous local record-holders were “Jurassic Park†and “Maverick†at 55 screens each.

SMASH HIT? The “Batman†movie is so big it’s producing two soundtracks. One is Goldenthal’s score, the other is a collection of rock pieces called “Original Music from the Motion Picture.†And one of those numbers is “Smash It Up,†from Orange County’s leading punk/alternative rock group The Offspring. But first-single honors from that album go to U2’s “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.â€
