CALABASAS : Actor Gary Busey Arraigned on Drug Charges, Posts Bail
Actor Gary Busey surrendered to sheriff’s deputies, posted bail and was arraigned Tuesday on drug charges stemming from a May 4 overdose at his Malibu home.
The 50-year-old actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his lead role in “The Buddy Holly Story,†was accompanied by his lawyer when he arrived at the sheriff’s Lost Hills station about 7:30 a.m., Deputy Angie Prewett said.
Busey pleaded not guilty in Malibu Municipal Court to one felony and three misdemeanor drug charges and was freed on a $10,000 bond.
Judge Larry Mira ordered Busey back to court for a July 17 hearing, at which time an agreement may be reached to allow Busey to complete a drug program rather than be prosecuted, according to a district attorney’s spokeswoman. Otherwise, a preliminary hearing date will be set.
Busey’s fiancee called deputies last month after finding the actor unconscious at his home in the 18400 block of Coastline Drive, Prewett said.
Deputies found about 1.5 grams of cocaine in Busey’s shirt pocket that day, Prewett said. After getting a search warrant for his home, investigators found another half gram of cocaine, four grams of marijuana and two grams of psilocybin in the master bedroom, the deputy said.
