A Simi Valley home was heavily damaged Saturday night after an explosion in the garage area touched off a two-alarm blaze, authorities said.
No injuries were reported in the fire that broke out about 6 p.m. at 3458 Galveston Ave., according to a spokeswoman for the Ventura County Fire Department.
Fire investigators say the owner of the home was transferring gasoline from a car to a container using an electric pump when the explosion occurred. The owner was not injured, but the resulting fire quickly spread through the garage and into the attic of the home.
Firefighters limited the fire to the attic area, the spokeswoman said.
Some tools and two of three cars in the garage were destroyed, along with much of the valuables stored in the attic.
The blaze was contained by about 7 p.m. The fire caused $60,000 in damage to contents and $75,000 in damage to the structure.
