Like Nat Cole, Williams was able to update that dreamy, ‘40s crooning style to fit the peppier instrumentation of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Some of his hit singles, like “Butterfly” and “The Village of St. Bernadette,” seem terribly corny now, but the show tunes and lush movie themes, such as “Charade,” hold up pretty well.
