HOOP-DE-DOO
In Charles P. Pierce’s otherwise fine story on the Orlando Magic (“The Really Big Show,†April 23), he neglected to mention that the 1979-80 Celtics, led by Rookie of the Year Larry Bird, set an NBA record by posting 32 more wins than the previous season’s club. That mark, in turn, was surpassed by the 1989-90 San Antonio Spurs, led by another Rookie of the Year, David Robinson. The Robinson team amassed 35 more wins than the previous year’s Spurs, to set what is still the all-time record.
