A VALLEY IN ITALY: The Many Seasons of a Villa in Umbria by Lisa St Aubin De Teran (HarperPerennial: $12.; 220 pp.). Her descriptions of camping in the half-ruined edifice, undertaking its restoration and learning to enjoy the local culture are a pleasant addition to the expatriate English genre. However, her poor-little-rich-girl complaints about au pairs who do nothing but party, the difficulty of moving six pianos and the habits of workmen who install marble floors soon cloy.
