Recalling V-E Day and Our Own Past
* During all the recent V-E Day celebrations, there has been some discussion about the Germans accepting responsibility for their part in the war. At the same time, I heard a level of frustration expressed over the Japanese rewriting of history concerning their responsibility during the war. My heart goes out to all the people who lost family and friends during the war.
When will we as a country have the same sense of outrage for what happened to our Native American population? My mother’s family was forced from Georgia during the relocation of the Cherokee. I’m so far removed from their experience, yet every now and then I am overcome by the incredible injustice that was thrust upon them.
When will our country honor them with a day of remembrance?
