A 14-pound 11-ounce rainbow trout broke the 54-year-old Big Bear Lake record and won the May Trout Classic last weekend.
The fish was caught by Harvey Clark of El Cajon, trolling a Rapala in Metcalf Bay. First place was worth $1,800. Officially weighed at 14.69 pounds, the fish topped the record of 14-8 set in 1941 by an unknown angler.
Generally, the catches were the largest since the event started in 1983. The top nine averaged 9.14 pounds.
