PREP SOFTBALL / SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Hatt, Zaleski Help Savanna Upset Glendora St. Lucy’s

Cara Hatt and Crystal Zaleski had RBI doubles as Savanna upset Glendora St. Lucy’s, 2-0, in a first-round Southern Section Division III softball game Friday.
Chrissy Konno went the distance for Savanna (17-7), giving up only four hits and improving her record to 7-3.
St. Lucy’s (21-4), seeded third, was the defending Southern Section Division III champion. Savanna will play Palmdale Highland on Tuesday in the second round.
In other Division III games:
El Segundo 3, Costa Mesa 0--Shilo Talanoa’s two-out, two-run single to right lifted El Segundo (20-5). Julie Collett had two hits for Costa Mesa (17-8).
Laguna Hills 4, Covina 0--Windy Scofield pitched a one-hitter and and gave up only one walk. Misty Thompson had three hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning. Laguna Hills (19-8) will play Magnolia.
Magnolia 3, Whittier California 1--Shannon Carlson hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning to put Magnolia ahead. Chrissy Hartman (6-2) pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for Magnolia (15-8). Western 8, Aliso Niguel 3--Adrienne Ratajczak, Kelly Humphries and Diane Pouliot each had two RBIs for Western (15-11), which will take on No. 2 La Serna.
In Division II softball:
Fullerton 1, Redlands 0 (12)--Amy Simpson’s single drove in Deborah Hargrave. Angie Fancuberta went the distance, striking out 14. Fullerton next plays Covina West Covina.
La Habra 2, Chino Hills Ayala 0--Jenny Topping singled home Michelle Archibeque in the top of the first giving La Habra (19-7), and Heather Tom followed with an RBI single, driving in Aimee Weathers. La Habra will play host to Woodbridge on Tuesday.
Ocean View 2, Irvine 0--Loveianne Jung scored on Sara Gulla’s single and Kathy Ponce scored on a first-inning wild pitch against Irvine (16-10). Ponce (14-6) pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight for host Ocean View (18-6-1). The Seahawks will play No. 4 Lakewood.
Rosary 1, Sunny Hills 0--Regina Martin singled in Laura Fulton in the bottom of the fifth, lifting third-seeded Rosary (21-6). Martin and Theresa Cronin were two for three. Sunny Hills finishes 9-12. Rosary will play Bellflower.
Woodbridge 2, Westminster 0--Christy Robitaille (17-5) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and Lisa Weaver’s RBI double drove in Ashley Boone with the eventual winning run for Woodbridge (20-9). Westminster finishes at 17-8.
In Division V softball:
Los Angeles Notre Dame Academy 1, Calvary Chapel 0--Misty Varsalone scored from second base on a two-base throwing error.
In Division VI softball:
Avalon 4, Southern California Christian 3 (10)--Anne Hardey led off the 10th inning with a single, stole second and scored on a fielding error to give the victory to Avalon (13-3). Tiffany Markley had two hits and two runs scored for SCC (10-10).
St. Margaret’s 3, Harbor City Gateway Christian 1--Amber Arnold pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts and Mariko Obrero and Joanna See each had RBI singles for St. Margaret’s (10-8).
