HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD : Pasadena Muir, LB Poly Favored to Defend Titles
- Share via
The Pasadena Muir boys and Long Beach Poly girls are favored to defend their team titles today at the Southern Section track and field finals at Cerritos College.
Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m. Team titles will be decided in four divisions.
The top nine finishers in each event, regardless of division, advance to Friday’s Masters Meet at Cerritos College.
Muir easily won the boys’ Division I title last year, and a strong performance from sophomore Obea Moore would help the Mustangs repeat. Moore set a division record in the 400 meters at last Saturday’s preliminaries with a time of 46.94 seconds. He also runs on the team’s 400- and 1,600-meter relays teams, which are favored.
Once again, the Long Beach Poly girls will rely on their depth to try to hold off such challengers as Anaheim Esperanza, Long Beach Wilson and Muir in Division I. The Jackrabbits expect to score well in eight of the 16 events.
