Mother’s Day will be celebrated a day early at a Van Nuys farmers’ market, where a Mother-Child Look-a-Like contest will be held.
Farmers’ Place will host the contest, which begins at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. There also will be musical entertainment from Sykus, an Andean folklorico group; Cal State Northridge’s 6.8 Jazz Choir and the country-Western singing duo of Tex Davis and Reed Williams, according to organizer Marie Tolbert.
In addition to the usual array of fresh fruit, vegetables, juice, herbs, honey, eggs and bread, there also will be jewelry, oils, incense, hand-mixed fragrances, crystals, hand-decorated hats and other accessories for sale, Tolbert said.
Used books from the Woodland Hills Branch Library will be sold and various Brazilian culinary specialties will be offered, Tolbert said.
Farmers’ Place is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and is located in the Van Nuys Civic Center parking lot, corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Sylvan Street.
Proceeds from the market benefit the nonprofit Volunteer Center of San Fernando Valley. For more information, call (818) 908-5074.
