MOSCOW : Allies Mark V-E Day

In the biggest political extravaganza to grip the Russian capital in nearly a century, President Bill Clinton and 50 other heads of state and government have converged on Moscow for today’s 50th anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
While battles rage in Chechnya and the Kremlin insists on selling nuclear technology to Iran, the superpowers will put their differences aside for the day in memory of and respect for their wartime alliance.
On the Russian-American bilateral agenda, President Boris N. Yeltsin will host Clinton at a two-day summit that is expected to delve into the sharp political disputes dividing their two countries.
The diplomacy moves on to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on Thursday, when Clinton will take part in another whirlwind summit, meeting with President Leonid D. Kuchma and honoring victims of wartime horror at the Babi Yar memorial.
