Van Nuys Airport Plan to Be Discussed

Officials with the Los Angeles Department of Airports are scheduled to discuss Van Nuys Airport’s master plan from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Van Nuys Airtel Plaza Hotel.

The document will define the future use of about 120 acres of airport-owned property during the next 20 years. Preliminary recommendations from department officials call for a mix of aviation use, office space and commercial development.

Area homeowners have expressed concern about the noise generated by an increasing number of helicopters and turbine-engine planes flying over their houses.

The department has scheduled a series of meetings to talk with local business people and residents about the use of the land.

A recent April session was attended by more than 200 residents, many of whom complained about airport noise.

The master plan’s final draft is projected for completion by July, 1996.
