There Are Always More Losers Than Winners

Bill Christine’s last sentence in his (Tuesday) column says your ace handicapper, Bob Mieszerski, had 261 winners and tied for the (newspaper) handicapping championship.
What he failed to say is that a $2 flat bet by Mieszerski lost $264 for the season.
Since he took over the handicapping, Mieszerski has not had a winning season at Santa Anita, Oak Tree, Hollywood Park or Del Mar.

Editor’s note: Reader Richards is correct, although there is no attempt to hide how The Times’ handicappers are doing in their imaginary wagering. That is reported regularly in the handicapping chart on the racing page. And in Mieszerski’s defense, nobody picking the races he is has done better at any of the tracks mentioned, nor is a steady diet of $2 win bets likely to leave any bettor in the plus column.
