Cypress Women Win Softball Tournament

Heidi Schmidt limited Southwestern to one run on seven hits and Christa Saindon backed her up at the plate as Cypress won the College of the Desert Tournament championship with a 6-1 victory Saturday at Cypress College.
Saindon, a freshman shortstop from Cypress High, powered the offense, going two for four with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored for the Chargers (41-7).
Schmidt, a freshman from Troy High, improved her record to 14-2, striking out six and walking none for Cypress.
The score as tied 1-1 through five innings, but Cypress broke it open with two in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.
