Scott Pruett, the series point leader, was fast in the rain-delayed opening practice for Sunday’s Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix at Nazareth Speedway.
Pruett, the point man for Firestone’s return to Indy-car racing after a 21-year absence, turned lap at 180.873 m.p.h. on the one-mile oval, more than 2 m.p.h. faster than runner-up Robby Gordon, who was on Goodyear tires. The one-hour practice came after a 6-hour 20-minute rain delay.
